Film production is something similar to climbing a mountain. A really big mountain strewn with mine fields and unfriendly fire breathing dragons. It’s a chore.
Simply beginning a project like this is literally a miracle.
So, we have begun.
June 2012 we stepped out to build a support base of supporters and individuals. We wanted to bring this to the loss community first. Our Indiegogo campaign served as a rallying point. A place where you could share your verbal support and offer monetary help to keep this ship on course.
With the funds raised we were able to start production in earnest. We’ve covered the very first of our subjects and reached out to a few others. With the funds raised Carrie first met Sherokee Ilse in Maryland last October. Since, Sherokee has become a strong friend and supporter of STILL. We have had the honor of sitting down with her and documenting her personal story and life mission. We will sit down with her again. We’ve met Jessica, Suzanne, Leroy and Sean. We will spend more time with them soon as their personal stories develop.
Our team is more active than ever. We are marketing. We are planning. We are reaching out for more funds. We are reaching out to the loss community to gain a stronger base and provide a better understanding about what this film will eventually be and how it can be used for years to come.
It is our goal to lock down many things during the month of March. April through September 2013 we will be on the road and in the air collecting all of these sacred stories and experiences that will make this film unique and impactful. As we go, footage will be logged, edited, transcribed, organized and assembled in a rough, “offline” fashion to slowly mold our story.
We are hoping that September will be a month of true realization toward our final product. We will be close, though shooting will not be complete. The timeline for this film presents an interesting dilemma. We would love to be complete by October of this year but many relevant and amazing things will happen during the month of October. That being said. How wonderful would it to be to have a few October 15th screenings across the country? This is my personal goal. Let’s cross our fingers and start a wave of light and prayers early.
Whew…let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Although it’s exciting to forecast.
We’re still planning trips. Still selecting subjects. Not everyone is a good fit. This is a difficult process for our team and participants. It seems like a good idea digging through the past hurt and tragedy. The greater good is obvious, the journey to get there may not present the right timing for everyone. In fact we have 2 grief counselors on our staff to keep us mindful of our subjects and their needs as well as the needs of our team and specifically Carrie and I as we move forward. It’s a battle another chapter in our story as well. We’re still doing grief work ourselves.
So, the near future will find us finalizing subjects, visiting them, capturing their points of view, searching for the financial backing to get us to the finish line and rallying the loss community as well as the film community to find the value in delivering this story to the world in the grandest fashion possible. I do believe our babies deserve a red carpet premiere, but we’re not there yet.
Today is Friday, February 15th, 2013. Our first trailer has nearly 2,000 views in under 48 hours. We applaud and celebrate the small victories and we continue to #SayItOutLoud.
