Carrie and I have often spoken about the timing for producing STILL. Just this year, this past May, all the appropriate and relevant components seemed to fall into place. Our hearts, minds and careers had been in preparation for the moment to simply say…yes. There have been many confirmations in my spirit over the past few months that tell me we are headed in the right direction. The production of Return To Zero has been one of these confirmations.
I have been on a few movie sets in my career and I would be first to say that it might be one of the last places you may ever want to be. Generally speaking, tensions are high, emotions run hot and time is definitely money. The creative process and the resulting product bring about the greatest of rewards but the logistics and financial giants encountered along the way threaten to “take you out” every waking moment. We had the pleasure to visit the set of Return To Zero last week and although we were there for only a few hours the heart of the matter is evident. The mission of this film is the same as ours. The endgame is to provide an honest window into the experience of losing a baby.
This town has no shortage of film production. It seems a million films, television programs and commercials are underway everyday. Crew members and especially cast have many options of projects to fill their time and pay their bills. The mere fact that Sean Hanish has made it to primary photography with Return to Zero is no small feat and is a testament to his passion and will for this project as well as his production team. On top of all of this the set was positive. The working environment upbeat and mindful of the task at hand. They are telling your story and mine from the perspective of Sean Hanish and his experience as a father.
Be thankful that Return to Zero is rolling frames today. Be proud and keep them in your prayers as they march toward editorial and post. Making a movie is something a kin to running gleefully through a mine field.
To Mr. Hanish, the cast and crew of R2Z, Godspeed and Break Legs! #SayItOutLoud #STILLBreakTheSilence
