I’m glad we found out about this on short notice because if I had known a week in advance I wouldn’t have been able to sleep like a child waiting to go to Disneyland the next morning for the first time.
It’s true. Carrie and I had the amazing privilege of screening Return To Zero with Sean Hanish, Paul Jaconi-Biery, Anita Brandt-Burgoyne and a handful of friends.
This post is tough to write. There are no words to explain the experience. I was there as Elena’s father, the Director of STILL and a curious filmmaker to offer honest, creative critique.
I won’t do you the disservice of discussing the specifics of the film. You will have to be patient and wait for the full viewer experience.
What I will say is a filmmaker, I am pleased. As a Father that has lost a baby, I am ecstatic. As a Husband to a wife that suffered he death of her baby, I was entertained, challenged, refreshed, acknowledged and validated.
I mentioned that when we visited the set great care was being put into the crafting of this film. Be assured that extreme care and consideration have been carried through to the post process and editorial as well.
Here are some affirmations and exhortations for you as a potential viewer of this film and likely someone that has experienced the traumatic passing of their baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death.
Be proud of this film. Right now. If you’re staying up late at night worrying that Hollywood got a hold of a “baby loss” tale and that it will be a distorted, watered down shadow of what you believe a film like this should be…sleep well.
Sean Hanish has been there, has listened to the community, has researched and taken advisement. We are taken care of. To everyone that has lost a baby…be careful what you wish for because Return To Zero will deliver.
Ms. Minnie Driver, thank you for the gift of your performance and participation. You did not have to deliver to the extent that you did…but you did and the world will be greater for your offering of this performance. Powerful. May the stars align and God look favorably on all of us with the recognition that you truly deserve in this next calendar year internationally and here in the United States.
Viewing public…your new mantra is “Must be patient.” Support Return To Zero in any way that they need help in these next months. Making a film is difficult. Promoting a film through the noise can be a trial. We have quite a few banner carriers these days within the loss community, Mr. Hanish, Mr. Jaconi-Biery and their awesome team are making us proud with their integrity, class and talent in delivering our mission and message.
Thank you Sean and the R2Z team. It’s going to be a fantastic year. #SayItOutLoud #STILLBreakTheSilence #TheyMatter
